Hyundai Kona N Line (OS 2022+)

The same 1.6 turbo that became a tuning legend

The N Line runs the Smartstream 1.6 T-GDi (146 kW / 265 Nm) and the 7-speed wet dual-clutch - the same drivetrain as the Elantra N Line, and the engine our custom boost-model work was developed on. That shared lineage makes it one of the better-supported small Hyundais to tune: real headroom and a known parts path, even though it is the warm N Line rather than the full Kona N.

FAQ

Common questions

What's the best first mod?

An ECU tune. The 1.6 T-GDi responds well to software alone and it's the cheapest, biggest single gain you'll get - no hardware required to start.

What gains are realistic on stock hardware?

A Stage 1 tune on the standard intake, exhaust and intercooler typically lifts it into the 175-185 kW range. Add an intake, intercooler and downpipe (Stage 2) and you can push past that, but the stock 7DCT torque limit is the practical ceiling, not the engine.

Does it actually need a tune to feel different, or just bolt-ons?

Bolt-ons alone (intake, exhaust) make noise and small changes but little real power on a turbo motor - the factory tune doesn't take advantage of them. You get the proper result by tuning the ECU to match whatever hardware you fit.

Any known weak points to watch?

The wet 7DCT is the main thing - it's stronger than the older dry units but torque-limited, so big torque tunes need restraint. The 1.6 itself is robust; just keep on top of oil changes given it's a direct-injected turbo.
