FAQ
Common questions
What's the best first mod?
A Stage 1 ECU tune, hands down. The stock turbo and injectors have plenty of headroom, so a flash alone reliably adds 40-50kW and a big chunk of mid-range torque on 98 RON, with no hardware changes.
What gains are realistic on stock hardware?
Stage 1 on the factory turbo usually lands around 220-235kW at the crank with strong torque. To push past that you're into Stage 2 territory - intercooler, downpipe and intake - which is where these cars start running into the limits of the standard clutch.
What are the known weak points once it's tuned?
Two main ones: the factory clutch starts slipping under added torque, and the engine and gearbox mounts are soft, so wheel hop and torque steer get worse with power. A clutch upgrade and stiffer mounts (especially the rear lower mount) are the usual next step after a tune.
Does it actually need a tune to be worth modding?
Yes - bolt-ons like an intake or exhaust do very little on their own here because the stock ECU map holds everything back. The car is designed around the tune, so spend there first and add supporting hardware as you climb the stages.
